Domestic Sprinkler Systems

Fire sprinklers in the home are a relatively new concept in the UK but their popularity is spreading as component and installation costs fall and their undoubted life and asset saving benefits are recognised by building regulators, the emergency services and general public alike.

 Life and Property Protection

In the United States, where, in an ever increasing number of states it is now mandatory for all new 1 and 2 family developments to be protected by a Fire Sprinkler System, the life and property saving benefits are being proven time and time again, affording the same level of protection in the home as that present when in at work, school or leisure centre.

Their effectiveness is having a major impact on fire death statistics. 80% of deaths caused by fire actually occur in the home, having an operational sprinkler system fitted in a house will reduce the chance of death from fire by 82%.

Added Protection in Remote Areas

Due to distance and access, homes situated in remoter villages, farm and moorland, receive a lower level of cover by the emergency services than homes in more metropolitan areas. Coupled with the mains supply problems common to these areas the quantity and guarantee of supply of water provided by the inclusion of a water tank, can prove vital in ensuring the sprinkler system can tackle the fire.

  • Water Supply

The majority of Domestic systems whether full systems protecting the entire property or a partial system covering a vulnerable part of the accommodation e.g. loft conversion, can be fed directly from the mains.

In areas where a constant supply or pressure cannot be guaranteed it may be necessary to install holding tanks and/or water pumps. Where space is a concern we can advise on a number of pump and tank options, including our specially designed, triangular eaves tanks which installed in the loft, neatly fits out of the way, in the apex.

    Water Re-cycling

Water usage is an ever growing area for environmental concern and also in an area such as the South West where water rates are very high, cost is a major factor. South West Fire Sprinklers have a range of water harvesting systems which collect and recycle brown or rain water ready for re-use by the sprinkler system.
